Listen to the episode, unedited and in full here!

Welcome back to Mindset, Mess & Magic! I’m Hayley Scott Summers, and today we’re diving into a topic that I think every spiritual entrepreneur, creative, and dream-chaser needs to hear:

👉 Why doubt will hold you hostage—and why a little delusion can actually set you free.

This idea was sparked by last week’s episode on soul-aligned strategy, where I mentioned the power of being “a little delulu.” And honestly? I think it’s one of the most underrated tools for anyone pursuing a big dream.

Why Doubt Holds You Back

Let’s be real: self-doubt is a dream killer.

I’ve struggled with it for years, and even now, it still creeps in. The difference is, I’ve learned not to let it drive. Doubt rides in my pocket, but I still do the thing anyway.

Here’s the truth most people don’t want to admit:

  • Doubt rarely shows up as “I’m doubting myself.”

  • It disguises itself as procrastination (“I’ll do it tomorrow after I clean the bathroom”).

  • It shows up as constant comparison (“She’s so magnetic, I could never be like that”).

Sound familiar?

Doubt shrinks you. It convinces you that you’re not enough. It stops you at the very first hurdle before you’ve even taken a chance.

But courage, not confidence, is the antidote.

Courage Comes Before Confidence

So many of us wait for confidence to arrive before taking action. But here’s the reframe:

  • Courage is what gets you started.

  • Action is what builds momentum.

  • Confidence is what comes after you’ve proven to yourself you can do it.

Confidence isn’t the antidote to doubt. Courage is. And every single time you take messy, imperfect, courageous action, you stack evidence that you’re capable—and that’s where true confidence grows.

The Case for Delusion (aka “Delulu”)

Here’s the fun part: embracing a little bit of delusion.

When you have big dreams, they almost always stretch beyond your current reality. That means you need to believe in something you can’t yet see—and often, other people will call that delusional.

But remember this:

✨ If someone thinks your dream is delusional, it’s because it’s outside their perception of what’s possible. Not yours.

Years ago, I didn’t share my big goals—like writing a bestselling book—because of reactions like smirks, doubt, or even harsh comments. But I’ve learned this:

Their disbelief has nothing to do with me.

Your dreams don’t need everyone’s approval. Sometimes, they just need you to back them with a little “delulu energy” and consistent action.

Choosing Your Story

Both doubt and delusion are stories we tell ourselves. The difference is:

  • Doubt stories sabotage your growth.

  • Delusional stories expand your reality and fuel your dreams.

Every day, you get to choose which story you tell.

Will you keep repeating the old loops (“I don’t have time,” “I’m not ready,” “What if I fail”)?

Or will you choose a new story—one that supports the future you want to create?

Final Thoughts

Doubt will keep you stuck. Delusion will set you free.

The playground of life is yours to create in. You are the author, the main character, the director of your own story. And the truth is, every single thing around you once existed only in someone’s imagination.

So go ahead—let people call you delusional. Embrace the delicious energy of dreaming big. Because the only way to bring something new into existence is to first believe it’s possible.

And remember:

👉 Doubt is your enemy.

👉 Delusion is your friend.

👉 The story you tell yourself will shape the life you create.

Now go bet on yourself—you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
